Practicing Simple Good Habits to Avoid Water Damage

Six Easy Steps to Avoid Water Damage

* From time to check the house hold appliances like air conditioner, heaters, water boilers, electric kettle, etc. You need to ensure that there is no leaky washing machine hose, cracked water heater pipe, or loose toilet water valve, etc. Check that the bottom of all the appliances is rust free. This will prevent water from leaking and also a big damage.

* Our house roof protects us from severe weather conditions. During the winter season, when it snows ice dams are created, so there is the need to remove them. In monsoons, the rainwater gets collected and may result in roof moss and algae. So remove them using the standard bristle brush & tear the roots using shingle. At times due to bad weather conditions, cracks appear in the roof. As the result rainwater might enter your home. If possible treat them immediately. Hence cleaning of the roof is very important from time to time and necessary repairs should be immediately made.

* Beside roof, you need to inspect the doors and windows as well. See they are properly installed and sealed rightly. This will enable them to withstand continuous rain / snowfall. Otherwise the water will enter the rooms and cause damage.

* Check for pipe leaks and main drainage pipe for blockage. Initial pipe damage repair might seem to be big at the time but think of future man. It will prevent a bigger loss that can occur due to pipe burst.

* If you are going out on a vacation, shut off the main water valve before leaving. There have been instances reported, when people returned from the vacations, their homes were flooded. At times, people forget to shut the taps.

* Install a water / moisture detector system in your home. Kitchen, Bathroom & laundry space are a must. Whenever there is excess production of water an alarm will rise and you can shut off the main water source immediately.
