Tips to Prevent Water Damage Due to Ice Dams

During winter season water damage occurs due to ice dams formed on rooftop or doors / windows. Some of us take the necessary steps to avoid such problem. But many of you would be like many… a lazy person, who waits for ice to melt on its own. But last winter, I have to pay for the water damage. After the cold season was over it and ice started to melt, the roof was damp wet and rooftop of my home leaked. My eyes were wide open and when called for professional help, they told me the severity of the situation.

They told me that clearing these ice dams is very important otherwise they can damage your property badly. From the day one when you have witness the formation of ice dams, you need to be on your foot. The first you can do is to make channels within the ice dams and run warm water through them. The warm water will help in melting the ice quickly. Easily you will get rid of ice there.

This method can be tiring for many and especially for senior citizens. So they can simply install a proper installation system. While buying the insulation system see the sturdiness of the roof. Check & see whether the roof is capable of handling the extra weight or not. If you think no then do not install it at all. Once you buy the insulation see to it that it’s dry and in working order. Effective insulation will help in regulating properly the heat loss from home and prevent the creation of ice dams. I went for this permanent solution.

If you don’t want yourself to be in such a situation, then take the necessary steps, now.
