Tips To Overcome Drywall Water Damage Successfully

After flood or rain, walls or ceilings of a room sometimes get damage. If you have the plans to restore the drywall, here are some easy guidelines.

The first thing that you should look in is how much area has been damage. Look out for size of the damaged area. At times it is easy to repair the damage yourself but if it’s a major, then straight way take the help of a water restoration company.

If you are doing this all by yourself, then isolate the area that has been damaged with water. Look for water drippings from the wall. Cut out the wet portion to allow the circulation of air quick drying of both wall and ceiling. A dehumidifier should be turned on to draw out the moisture from the wall.

Next thing is to closely monitor the drying process. In case after 12 hours you detect moisture in the wall, then you are required to cut more wall area. This is very important. If a close eye is not kept then they are chances of mold developing on the wall.

If moisture on the wall is completely soaked then replace the drywall using studs that would have been comprised. Replace a new patch over it. By chance if large part of the wall is affected then first install a good plywood backer board on the stud. Once you have done this then nail in dry patch to backer board. Then carefully spread the joint mix using a putty knife. Smooth down all the depressions that appear on the wall. If the leak appeared near the floor, then leave a small clearance between the new drywall and floor. This will protect the wall from any leaks that can occur in the future.
From a hardware shop get a drywall tape and fix over it. Once you have got the required even look, you can paint the patch as per the one used all over the wall
